Fully-boxed frames are more rigid than the C-channel frames Ford used to use on its Super Duty trucks. The reason the Super Duty stuck so long with its C-channel frame is in part a function of weight -- adding more steel to the frame means more pounds on the truck, and fewer pounds that can be hauled.
For the 2017 model year, the Super Duty is getting a major redesign. Weight is being removed from the body by switching from steel to military-grade aluminum, and that weight is being reinvested in other areas, like the frame.
