The Ford Fusion has had a reputation for safety for many years now, frequently taking home a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA, and the IIHS's Top Safety Pick. This year's Fusion, however, takes the cake.
Ever since the IIHS began conducting its small-overlap front crash test, the Fusion has earned the rating acceptable, on a scale of good, acceptable, marginal, and poor. In other words, it provided above-average protection, but there was room to improve.
This year, the 2017 Fusion did just that.
Its updated front-end structure now protects even better against the notorious small-overlap crash, protecting you from all angles. The new model also features an upgraded Pre-Collision System capable of preventing a crash from up to 25mph.
"The 2017 Ford Fusion is our most advanced car yet and we're proud to see it recognized by NHTSA and the IIHS for its safety performance too," said Bill Strickland, chief program engineer, Ford Motor Company. "Great new features include a pedestrian detection system and hands-free parallel and perpendicular parking capability, as well as existing optional lane-keeping assist and Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert."
